To camp or not to camp - that is the question...

Boy oh boy, what a dilemma...this weekend is forecast to be HOT HOT HOT - in Warrington - so what do we do. We plan a camping trip to the west coast of wales. Is this legal I say?
This weekend (sorry to talk football / soccer again) is the beginning of the world cup quarter finals and a whole host of highly entertaining viewing will be on offer. So what better than to be in a tent in the middle of nowhere without a TV / radio reception / food? Not good.
So what do I do? Do I take my girlfriend to the country known as Wales and spend an uncomfortable two nights in a shitty tent eating burnt sausages and cans of beans OR do I stay at home for the full weekend, lounging around in my new giant bed that, I must say, has the best mattress I have EVER slept on, watching football and eating pizza and ice cream and drinking copious amounts of booze? What a tough call eh?
To fill you in a little more I would like to add that the 'last camping trip' (almost deserving its very own post) was a total and utter fuck up. In fact it was a double triple uber fuck up. I kid you not. Our destination that time was Harlech (again on the coast of wales) and a lovely little camp site overlooking the sea. We arrived just before dark on the Friday night and after a couple of tinnies we went to sleep... only to be woken BY A FUCKING HURRICANE! Yes, the whole camp site was like a scene out of The Wizard of Oz. People were out of their tents holding them to the floor (I'm sure at one point a child flew past me.) There were people with huge awnings that had been totally ripped out of the floor... and well our tent was torn to shreds and come 6am we had packed the car up and were heading for home... ending up spending our 'camping' weekend getting pissed in the trafford centre (#1 chav activity.)
Now don't get me wrong, I can rough it with the best of them - living off the land, eating slugs and nettles and all that - it's just that I like my creature comforts. Don't we all. So I'm left with a dilemma, to camp or not to camp? To be fare in my decision I'm considering the dice rolling option but giving it only one side, thus leaving it to chance. The other five will be in my bed - deal? I'll let you know.

I really enjoyed camping when I was a little boy. I think I would still enjoy it but I would want a tent with an internet connection.
I fucking hate camping, it makes me physically sick. What a fucking waste of fucking time. I hate people that camp too - they wear clothes by Rohan and have copius amounts of tupperware. And that campsite looks not far from where I went to University - fucking Aberystwyth. If youre passing by on the 11th drop in and watch me graduate. So yeah, camping fucking fucks. But it's your life...
There was a time i could do this not any more!
Erm...just recently went camping and I must admit I don't think I'm exactly a beens from can, sleep on the ground, use public showers kinda girl...
Nature's great and all, but I vote for booze, football and giant comfy mattresses.
I agree with Hill, I was there, and Nature is overrated! ;)
Kidding, but if you like football this would be a bad weekend to be without TV no? Nothing worse for a woman than her man constantly wanting to find a tv, the score etc, finish Ace Combat Zero... *feeds playstation piece by piece into blender*..
..Er! Anyway, my vote is camping a no football weekend.
Why's your profile private btw?
How bizzare! where's my profile? When was that removed? That's never happened before. The site says that it is public... I'll have to look into this... cheers Carrie.
So brits, do you like camping or not? :D I think you should opt out. I'm fine with all-days hikes and shit, but when it comes to sleeping, I'd better have me a damned bed.
I like my creature comforts too much to camp more than once in say oooh 10 years or so. The last time I went was 2 years ago and I ended up huddled in my tent like a frightened wombat as a thunder storm/cyclone went through.
Would that best matress ever be the one from Ikea? ;)
Linna, might be. With regards to matress update.... this morning was my first ever morning with a lie in using said matress. At one point I almost cried it was that good. I will take photographs of me in bed (is this wrong?) so that you can appreciate my happiness (not in a wrong way)
I love camping (don't hate me britpopbaby). But, you Brits are camping in the middle of nowhere Wales, while I am camping in the beautiful forests and mountains of Colorado. It feels like a great escape to me to go to the hills, turn off my phone, take in the beautiful nature around me, cook outside, sit in my chair and drink beer all day, and sleep in a tent on my airmatress. Yes, I hate sleeping on the ground as well. Of course I have delt with hurricane force winds, sleeping in a puddle of water because of torrential rain, wild animals not being friendly, lightening meters away, and "Oh shit, I forgot the matches", but for the most part my camping experiences have been enjoyable.
Since the world cup is playing now, I think you would have more enjoyment staying at home. Carrie is right. There is nothing worse than a man constantly looking for a TV, the score of the game, etc. Take a camping trip when the games are over.
I think we all would love to see a picture of you in your bed. What kind of matress do you have? I can't remember the last time I owned a good matress. Maybe that is one reason I like sleeping in my tent.
What are tinnies?
Cheers!
veronica, 'tinnies' means a can of beer. It's an austalian thing. Not that i'm australian... and as for pictures of me in my bed... I'll commission the glamour shot straight away. I may have to get Rolf Harris to do it though so it could take a few weeks.
Considering that the chance of camping in another hurricane is pretty slim, I'd have to go with camping. But that's just who I am.
(Plus, considering your luck in the area so far, it'll be a great read ;-)
how can you not like the slugs, nettles and hard ground? comfort, what is that i ask!
Wales is for c**ts.
Just thought I would drop by a message! I love camping, it is amazing!

The title is misspelt by the way it should be "To camp or not to camp - that is the question..." you put "of" instead of "or".
